Windows to Parallel Essence · Our Underlying Sameness
⁘ “"It seems similar, but it feels different", said a friend. "So you do it your way, I do it my way. You go your way, and I go my way." We stumble upon this same hurdle. Perception of distinction in the midst of sameness. We zone into our contrasts and overlook the parallels. Underneath, a human being. Diverse places, cultures, beliefs. Nothing is radically different. But we fixate on the difference. Might we seek perspectives, windows, into our underlying essence?”
"It seems similar,
but it feels different", said a friend.
"Something about it doesn't resonate."
"So you do it your way, I do it my way.
You go your way, and I go my way."
Really, most everyone of all these friends,
they stumble upon this same hurdle,
perception of distinction in the midst of sameness.
We zone into our contrasts and overlook the parallels,
or even the exactly identical fabric that we look at,
at the bottom of things.
Underneath, human being.
Nothing is radically different from one place to another,
from one people to another, culture, belief.
Underneath, there is a substratum that is so very similar.
But alas, we fixate on the difference.
This is our problem as a whole.
And really, much of what I've sought to do,
over the last 15 odd years or so,
is to provide perspectives, windows,
into the underlying essence,
the patterns that are shared between all of us.
All of these cultures, thought systems, modelings,
they are but the dressing.
The problem, however, is that we start
licking the packaging instead of
biting into the actual nutrition underneath.
