⁘ “A primer into the world of the occult. Really just a hint at the ground to cover for a well-rounded sense. Perhaps dig Alistair Crowley. Or Agrippa or Eliphas Levi. Or chase the roots of Renaissance magic and the seeds of modern aggregators. Occult Arabic world, greater Abrahamic and Greco-Roman, etc. traditions. Hinduism and the Vedas, Buddhism and Taoist metaphysics. Native shamanic traditions the world around. Such a tedious necromancer's job there. Until the Ancient of Days walks again. Enough dug.”
A friend asking for a primer into the world of the occult. Perhaps Alistair Crowley. Core concepts of the Thelema. Perhaps Agrippa, perhaps Eliphas Levi. Or perhaps we would do well to seek the roots of Renaissance magic, and the seeds of all these modern aggregators, into the occult Arabic world, their golden age, what all they brought together from the greater Abrahamic, Greco-Roman, etc. traditions. Shall we also take a journey farther east, into the dharmic world. From Hinduism into the Vedas, the Buddhist concepts, and Taoist metaphysics, inner alchemy for good measure. Forget not the native shamanic traditions the world around, rich in symbols and magical methods as well. Such a tedious necromancer's job there. Who could be bothered trying to revive all of that ancient stuff? Once upon a time, I did. Shifting through all of those bits and pieces for living essence, discarding the husks, and I stopped when the Ancient of Days started walking again. That was enough.
